How it works
During your consultation at the beginning of your appointment, your Lash Artist will determine the best curl size and shape based on your preferences and natural lash integrity. After this consultation, you’ll then settle in and get comfortable, and relax for the remainder of your appointment while your Lash Artist works her magic.
Okay, so maybe it’s not all magic. Here’s an overview of what she’ll be doing while you’re chilling:
First, she’ll prepare your lashes with a gentle cleanse to remove any oil, dead skin cells, and environmental pollutants that can inhibit the lift effect. Then, using a gentle, water-soluble adhesive, she adheres a silicon rod to your lid at your lash line. Rods range in size from small to extra-large, and these are responsible for the size and shape of your curl. Don’t worry, the rod is soft and flexible, and you won’t feel a thing.
Once the rod is secure, she will expertly adhere your lashes by gently curling them up onto the rod, taking care to make sure every lash is positioned perfectly, lying flat and in the same direction. This attention to detail may take some time but is important because how your lashes are positioned on the rod is how they will look off the rod.
We then apply a lift solution to the lashes on the rod and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes. Don’t worry, this solution is completely safe for the eyes and will not harm your lashes. The solution aids in breaking down the bonds that keep your lashes straight, allowing them to curl and mold to the shape of the rod. Once removed, a setting solution is applied to secure the newly shaped lashes, as well as nourish and condition them – like conditioning your hair after a color treatment. After 5-10 minutes, the setting solution and the rods are gently removed revealing perfectly curled and lifted lashes!
At this point, you can choose to add a tint. At Lash Universe, we use a vegetable based semi-permanent lash color which is applied to the lashes giving them a darker, fuller look. The tint lasts 2-4 weeks and reduces or eliminates the need for mascara, saving you money and time in your morning routine. The tinting process only takes approximately 2-3 minutes.
Once complete, your Lash Artist will dry and brush your lashes before revealing your best decision ever!
Unlike lash extensions, Lash Lifts are curling your natural lashes, which mean you can still use your regular skincare and makeup products. There is no need to avoid products containing oil, as there is no adhesive there to be broken down! The initial aftercare is important, though, to keep your lashes looking luscious between maintenance appointments. For the first 24 hours, keep your lashes dry, as water can interrupt the curing process and cause your lashes to fall straight again. This means no steam, hot baths, workouts, or submersing the lashes in water in any way. When you go to sleep that night, you’ll want to make sure you sleep as flat on your back as possible, as any overnight smooshing (technical lash terminology ;)) might make your lashes remain like that for the duration of the lift. After 24 hours have passed, you’re free to live your best lash life!
